Professor David Singleton from Trinity College Dublin will explore with us the great variety of circumstances which may lead to bilingualism / multilingualism in the modern world, noting the role of the language of parents, of the larger community and of the school. Then he will address a series of questions discussed by researchers in this field: Is the acquisition slower than that of unilingual acquisition? Does it occur in a more or less equal way? Do the different aspects of the languages acquired by a bilingual have a distinct rhythm of development in each of the languages in question?
