GERMAN PLAYGROUP
Thanks for providing a 'meeting place' for people trying to bring up their children bilingually. We are trying to set up a German Playgroup, starting with three German/Irish mixed families in Dublin 7 - Dublin 11 and would like to use the bilingual forum to advertise.

The age range is currently between one and years of age. At the moment there are only seven children and three German-speaking mothers and we'd love to find some more participants.

The next meeting is taking place on Wednesday, 3rd March 4-5.30 pm at Cabra Library.

I am interested in meeting up with Flemish/Dutch speaking children. I am Irish and my husband is Flemish. Our daughter used to be fluent in both English and Flemish but has been losing her Flemish since we moved back to Cork 2 years ago. We would also like to continue the Sinterklaas tradition so if anyone would like to get together to celebrate this please contact me.

Hi Mieke,
I'm a German mother to a 19 month old girl and expecting our second in a few weeks' time, so I'm looking to join a German playgroup with my toddler for her to make friends and use her German with other kids. Is your playgroup still on? If so, I'd love to join and get updates on the next meeting.
I'm in Artane myself, so I'd also love to hear from other bilingual mums in the area.
Cheers,

Are You the Parent of a Bilingual Child?

If you have a bilingual child, we need your participation in a research study. The purpose of the study is to gain insight from parents about childhood bilingualism and attitudes toward reading. Participants must have bilingual children who make “constant oral use of two (or more) languages,” because the languages are used frequently in the community and/or at home.

Participation is easy! You will complete a survey by responding to twenty four questions. Just click the link below and you can start. Then click ‘Wyslij’ (Send) and that’s it!

Are you interested in seeing the outcome of this research study that will include your input? As a way of thanking you, we can send a copy of the study to you via email after it is successfully completed. You can leave your email at the end in the ‘comments’ section.

We appreciate your help! Thank you!

Hi, We're moving to Dublin from Berlin at the end of this month - I'm Irish and my husband is German. My daugther will be 3 in August and speaks German and English and my son is 14 months. I am really anxious for them to keep up their German. Is there anyone with children of a similar age who would like to meet up? Or is there a German playgroup for their age? We'll be in Dublin 6 but don't mind meeting up wherever is convenient. Thanks! Tonia

Hi,

I'm so sorry I haven't been in touch. Don't know where the time went since the start of the year. My little one was teething non-stop - no sleep for me!
The German playgroup went a bit patchy, we met up in each others homes from May to Summer because the room in the library just seemed a bit big for us few. Over the holidays most of us were in Germany or somewhere...
I want to try to get it going again,as there seemed to be more interest. My mobile no. is 086-0847425. Please get in touch if you are interested.

For those on the Southside or with cars, I think there is a German playgroup Saturdays at the Lutheran Church in Adelaide Rd as well.

we live in Clonlara, Co clare. So we're onthe other side of the country :(. But there are other Germans in Dublin (see top of this thread). You can also try the discussions/chat forums on rollercoaster. I find a bit harder to locate people in our area...
However, went to th eplayrgound yesterday and heard someone speaking German so we had a chat and exchanged phone numbers. Another way to meet people ;-)

Hello everyone, I'm interested to understand how the 'Dublin Multilingual Family Support Group' works as I'm mom of two boys aged 3 & 6. I'm Italian, dad's German and kiddis, well feeling very Irish - and perhaps bit confused! English is the main language spoken at home but we want to find a good way to get the other two going as well. I'd love also to join an Italian group but I only see Charleville on Sat http://www.dublincity.ie/RecreationandCulture/libraries/FindALibrary/Pages/charleville_mall_library.aspx . As I live in the Stillorgan area, I was wondering if there's anything going during the week somewhere preferably South side. Glad to also help organizing gatherings but being a working mom my availability is restricted to some afternoon/month. Grazie mille e saluti a tutti!
